Varsity honour
A MUSLIM academic has been honoured with a doctorate from Loughborough University.
Professor Khurshid Ahmad is one of the most respected Muslim thinkers in the UK. He is founder of the Islamic Foundation, rector of the Markfield Institute and chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies in Pakistan.

Dr Khurshid exhorts Muslims to integrate
Professor Khurshid Ahmad, who is the first Muslim to be awarded an honorary D Lit degree in Britain, on Thursday exhorted the Muslims to integrate well in the British society to win over hearts and minds.
Addressing a gathering in Markfield, given in his honour by the Islamic Foundation and Markfield field Institute of Higher Education, the prominent religious scholar from Pakistan, urged the British Muslims to play a positive role in the development of their society.
Dr Ahmad was awarded honorary Degree of Literature at a convocation of the Loughborough University.
He said: “I deem it a unique honour to join the academic family of the Loughborough University.
“It is with great humility that I accept this Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature and express my deep gratitude to the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor, and the Senate and Council of the University for conferring this honour on me in recognition of whatever little contribution I have been able to make over the last fifty years in the fields of education and research, development of Islamic economics as a social discipline and promotion of better understanding of Islam in the UK, Europe and America.
“I thank you for this recognition but my thanks goes also to the movement, community and a galaxy of institutions through which I have worked over the years.”

برطانوی یونیورسٹی کی جانب سے پروفیسر خورشید کیلئے ڈی لٹ کی اعزازی ڈگری
وہ پاکستان کی سینٹ کے رکن اور جماعت اسلامی کے نائب امیر بھی ہیں
ممتاز مسلم دانشور پروفیسر خورشید احمد کی علمی اور تحقیقی خدمات کے اعتراف کے طور پر برطانیہ کی صف اول کی لو برو یونیورسٹی نے جمعہ 11 جولائی کے کانووکیشن میں انہیں ڈی لٹ کی اعزازی ڈگری دی۔ پروفیسر خورشید احمد برطانیہ کے معروف اسلامی تحقیقی اور علمی ادارے اسلامک فاؤنڈیشن لیسٹر کے بانی اور چیئر مین اور فاؤنڈیشن کے زیر انتظام اعلی تعلیم کے مرکز مارک فیلڈ انسٹیٹیوٹ کے ریکٹر ہیں۔ مغرب میں اشاعت اسلام، مسلمانوں اور غیرمسلموں کے مابین افہام و تفہیم، اسلامی معاشیات، تعلیم اور تحقیق اور تصنیفی سرگرمیوں میں عالمی شہرت کے حامل پروفیسر خورشید احمد کو اس سے قبل متعدد اعلی ترین اعزازات سے سرفراز کیا گیا ہے مثلا شاہ فیصل ایوارڈ ، اسلامک ڈیویلپمنٹ بینک ایوارڈ ۔ پروفیسر خورشید احمد پاکستان کی سینٹ کے رکن اور جماعت اسلامی پاکستان کے نائب امیر بھی ہیں۔ مارک فیلڈ انسٹیٹیوٹ کی نئی عمارت کا افتتاح پرنس چارلس نے حال ہی میں کیا تھا۔ اس انسٹیٹیوٹ میں دنیا کے مختلف ممالک کے تقریباً پچاس طالبعلم اسلامیات کے متعدد موضوعات پر ایم اے اور پی ایچ ڈی ڈگری کے حصول میں مشغول ہیں۔ پروفیسر خورشید کی متعدد تصانیف نصاب میں داخل ہیں اور کئی زبانوں میں ان کے تراجم شائع ہو چکے ہیں۔
